Krause Law Represents Key Partner in Major Stockyards District Development

Developer Flaherty & Collins Properties has just broken ground on “The Yards,” a $41 million mixed-use residential development with 232 luxury apartments and over 3,150 square feet of retail space. The project is located in Kansas City’s historic Stockyard District, adjacent to the Livestock Exchange Building. The new development also is immediately across from Kemper Arena, now undergoing a $39 million conversion to create a two-level sports facility accommodating indoor soccer, basketball, volleyball and other sporting activities.

Bill Haw and Kansas City Mayor Sly James, along with developer VP Ryan Cronk, prepare to break ground for The Yards project in Kansas City’s historic Stockyards District.

Krause Law is representing Livestock Exchange, LLC, owned by C. L. William (Bill) Haw, which is providing the real estate and equity financing for the project. According to Krause Law’s founding member Philip Krause, “Bill Haw is a classic serial entrepreneur. He pioneered the high-intensity feedlot production concept for food animal production, and more recently he has been a catalyst for the on-going resurgence of the Stockyards District just to the west of downtown Kansas City. Bill’s vision and innovation make him an ideal client for our practice serving entrepreneurs in a wide range of cutting-edge initiatives.”

The Yards will utilize undeveloped property that for many years has been used as surface parking for the Golden Ox Restaurant and Kemper Arena events. The project design will include re-purposing acres of bricks, still in place under the parking lot surface, that were originally used as surface material to help control mud and waste in the stockyards’ livestock pens. Construction will be visible from the offices of Krause Law, located on the fourth floor of the Livestock Exchange Building.

Flaherty & Collins, an Indianapolis-based developer, is also behind the Union ׀ Berkley Riverfront project (410 luxury apartments and 12,400 square feet of retail space) along the Missouri River just north of Kansas City’s River Market district, and The Heights Linden Square project (224 luxury apartment homes and 10,000 square feet of street-front retail space) in Gladstone, Missouri.
